Japan’s Meidensha Corporation announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with Burma’s Asia General Electric Co. to provide technological cooperation for the design, manufacture and maintenance of voltage inverters.

The company, which was founded in 1897 and generally manufactures power generators and water treatment systems, said it is interested in making inroads into the emerging Southeast Asian market.

The Tokyo-based firm also signed a memorandum of understanding stating it would consider investing in producing transformers for Rangoon-based government-provider Asia General Electric.
