Burma hosts Asean police chief conference

The 32nd Conference of the Asean Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) is underway in Naypyitaw. Included in their agenda are joint operations in cross-border crimes.

Burma’s Police Chief Police Major-General Kyaw Kyaw Tun, who took over the chairmanship from his Lao counterpart, chaired the meeting, said The New Light of Myanmar, a state-run newspaper.

The last ASEANAPOL conference was held in Vientiane. During the gathering, issues including terrorism, arms smuggling, human trafficking, maritime fraud, commercial crime, bank offenses, cyber crime, transnational fraud, electronic-ASEANAPOL Database System (e-ADS), mutual assistance in criminal matters and exchange of personnel were discussed.

The first formal meeting of ASEANAPOL took place in Manila in 1981.
