This was followed by a second bomb explosion in Mandalay a few hours later.

The first bomb exploded at noon in downtown Mandalay.  The bomb was placed in a Pajero sports utility vehicle with the license plate number 3B-1904 parked in front of the Zaygyo Hotel.

One traffic police officer was injured, according to a fire brigade officer in the city.

‘The car was entirely destroyed’, he told to Mizzima. An eyewitness said firefighters were stopped by high-ranking military officers who told them, ‘It is none of your business’.

‘I thought it was a thunderstorm because the explosion was so loud’, a resident told Mizzima.

An eyewitness said that he saw ambulances take two injured people from the scene.

A second bomb blast went off in Naypyitaw at 12:30 p.m. when it exploded at No. 46, Shwelabkaung Street in Thapyaygone Quarter. No other details were available.

About the same time on Friday, a third bomb blast destroyed the upper floor of a two-story house in Quarter 4 in Maymyo. The area is home to a large number of military schools. Rumours in the town claim more bombs have been planted and security check points have been strengthened, according to residents.

The fourth bomb is reported to have exploded in a rubbish dump in Mandalay at about 3 p.m. The area, about 800 feet from the earlier explosion, was cordoned off by security forces two hours prior to the bomb going off.
