(Mizzima) – Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s lawsuit against the Burmese junta concerning the dissolution of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party is set to take place on October 18, according to party spokesperson Nyan Win.

Legal counsel Kyi Win is slated to be the single lawyer authorized to represent the NLD on the first day of the hearing.

The NLD is requesting authorities to permit party representatives to meet with the detained Aung San Suu Kyi early next week in order to discuss preparations regarding the case.

Despite expectations of unfair judgment given the junta-influenced legal system, the current appeal is only being heard upon acceptance of the NLD’s challenge regarding the party’s September 14 dissolution for failure to partake in the November polling.

Previous objections on the part of the NLD centered on the junta’s Political Parties Registration Law, which, it alleges, serves as the backbone for the controversial 2008 constitution.
